Paying Your Rent
When to pay
Rent is charged to your account weekly. You have the choice to pay your rent weekly, fortnightly or monthly in advance. It’s important that you pay your rent and service charges on time.
How much to pay
When you commence your tenancy you are advised of the amount of rent to pay. Subsequently you are advised each year of any change to your rent. Your rent may include a service charge.
Ways to pay your rent
You can pay your rent by:
- Direct Debit
- Cash or cheque at the office
- Post
- Via the internet
Direct Debit
Direct Debit is the safest and easiest way to pay. You can choose for your payment to leave your bank or building society account on any day in the month that suits you or weekly on a Monday.. To set up direct debit payments, we will give you a form which you need to sign and return to us. We’ll then send the form to your bank or building society. Your payments will be covered by the direct debit guarantee. If your rent changes at any time, we can tell your bank or building society to amend your payment. We’ll give you 14 days notice, if your direct debit payment needs to change.
Into the Society’s office
You can pay your rent either by cheque or cash at the Society’s office during opening times. You should remember to bring your rent book with you, but if you forget we will give you a receipt for you to keep.
By Post
There is always a danger that cheques can become lost in the post, but if you have to send rent either through the post or use the Society’s letter box we will send you a receipt as soon as possible to confirm your payment.
Housing Benefit
If you get housing benefit, you can ask the Council to pay it to us. If your housing benefit only pays part of your rent, you will need to pay the rest using one of the ways above.
Help with rent arrears
If you are struggling to pay your rent then please do not hesitate to contact the Credit Controller Officer as soon as possible. You might lose your home if you do not keep up your payments. We can help you manage your rent arrears before they get out of control, but you must let us know as soon as you have a problem. The Society's policy on rent arrears is available for inspection.
Rent Statement
We will send you a Rent Statement quarterly, this will show your payments and if there are any rent arrears. If you would like us to send you a Rent Statement at any time then please contact the Credit Control Officer.
